Dina Mitrani Gallery is pleased to present Freshly Squeezed, a group exhibition curated by Jesus Petroccini and Julian Pardo, founders of Foto 33, an e-magazine about the photographic medium.
Given the opportunity to curate an exhibition that gives emerging local artists a chance to showcase their work, Pardo and Petroccini worked with the intention to unveil this community of photographers working amidst the prejudices regarding this area, and to visually unfurl the complex relationships the artist has with his environment.
While a tropical party appendix to this country, it is a cultural destination for the rest of the world – an interesting paradigm for those that have carved a creative niche through their life and work in the region. Breaking from these preconceptions, requires a shift in awareness from the international art scene towards the artists who have focused their attention on this very region. Holistic and enlightening, decadent and indulgent, such a shift towards the internal leads to discovery. Freshly Squeezed is about the artists against the backdrop of their own environment.
